Guardianships are a serious legal matter that concerns all aspects of the incapacitated person’s life. We will treat family members with courtesy and care while helping them navigate the process with as little stress as possible. In particular, we enjoy assisting families with special needs children turning 18 years of age and the loved ones of the elderly that have lost capacity to manage their own affairs.

We represent Petitioners for Guardianship. We will pace you through the process of establishing a guardianship from filing the petition through the reports that are due after the hearing. The family then has the option of maintaining representation ongoing, or representing themselves if they are up to the challenge. Lay guardians are family members or friends who are willing and able to step up to the responsibility of being a legal guardian.  Dixon Law has vast experience with establishing and maintaining lay guardianships.

Dixon Law can provide the following:

  • Representation of Lay Guardians
  • Representation of Interested Persons that are not interested in becoming a guardian
  • Representation in Court
  • Communication and negotiation with the Guardian ad Litem and the family
  • Assistance with reporting responsibilities ongoing
  • Transition between guardians
